Evening Anchorage - Lithograph
Trolling the West Coast of Vancouver Island is something I had never dreamed of doing as I had no experience trolling salmon. My brother Arthur had need of a skipper for his troller and convinced me that I could do the job with the help of a good deckhand with lots of experience. So it was that Art hired me as skipper and interviewed a number of deckhands, finally coming up with a young man who claimed a years experience and we were off to fish the West Coast of Vancouver Island. My deckhand turned out to be inexperienced and left us after the first trip and I was fortunate to find a young man from Hot Springs Cove, who fished the Summer of 1980 with me. September brought the end of the salmon season and found me at the dock in Tofino. Today, I live on the ocean and we see many fisherman tied up to buoys in front of the house when it is too rough to anchor on the open ocean.
There are many nights when the West wind has blown me off the seas and I have found myself watching one of our beautiful sunsets from a safe, calm, Evening Anchorage.
