The Elders are Watching - Blockmount
The inspiration for this work came from a poem by the same name written by Mr. Dave Bouchard, from the people of my village, Kitkatla, and from the birth of my son, William Roy Henry.
In essence it is the portrayal of a father and child. The father is explaining to the child that heritage and culture are very important to everyone. The figures in the sky are elders of Kitkatla who lived and died caring for our future. Two of the figures are my great-grandparents.
This work was done to remind myself of one of the reasons that I continue to create images. I hope that my creativity inspires people to learn of their past, that they might understand the present and thus enable themselves to ensure a good quality of life for future generations.
